
Acting Deputy Chairman of the Provisional Government of the Kyrgyz Republic (Economic Affairs), 2010 – Present
Born in 1956 in the northern region of Chui, Almaz Atambayev graduated from the Moscow Institute of Management with a degree in economics. In 1983 – 1987 he served in the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR. In 1993 Atambayev was one of the founders of the Social-Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan. In 2000 he ran unsuccessfully for the presidency of the Kyrgyz Republic. He also served as minister of industry, trade and tourism in 2005-2006 and as prime minister in 2007. In 2008 Atambayev was elected head of the United People’s Movement.

- December 2005-April 2006 – Minister of industry, trade and tourism of the Kyrgyz Republic
- October 2000 – Ran in the presidential election, winning 6 percent of the vote
- July 1999 – Chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzsta
